Vegan, Eco-conscious & Ethical T-shirts

Ethical T-shirts because your clothes should never cost less than a latte!

You might Wonder why Ethical T-shirts sound so important, let me explain. Have you heard of the Rana Plazza collapse that killed over 800 people? Dramatic. Those people died because of fast fashion brands, that I will not name here, do not guarantee safe conditions for their works in developing countries such as China, Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Ecuador, Indonesia and more. Fast Fashion brands underpay those poor people and they neglect their rights. They make them work long hours in awful working environment for a low pay. Some are even underage!

If you make sure that you buy ethical T-shirts like the ones we offer on the marketplace, you fight that fast fashion model and protect people. It is simple consideration and kindness. We also offer some ethical shoes so you can adopt a look 100% respectful!

Why should you go for a Vegan T-shirts?

There are two main reasons why you should avoid all the fashion items that are made from animal products: pollution and cruelty. The non vegan materials such as leather are terribly toxic and the people working in this industry, usually in developing countries, are very poorly treated. The brands often consider them like slaves and they do not pay them minimum wage. Workers also get sick because of the chemicals used during the tanning of the leather.

Of course, there is also some ethical concerns related to wearing someone’s skin or fur. Most people tend to think that leather and fur are sourced from the food industry. Well it is wrong! The animals that we kill to eat and the animals that we kill to produce non vegan materials are not the same. So fashion itself kills a lot every year!

But do not worry, there are some vegan alternatives such as organic cotton, hemp, soy silk, pineapple and more. Our range of vegan T-shirts is cruelty-free as well as ethical and eco-conscious. You should check it out! We also offer you a selection of vegan shoes and vegans bags to complete the look!

Eco-conscious T-shirts: a staple in your ethical closet!

Fashion is one of the most polluting industry. It is due to our over consumption of course but also because of the materials that we use that are not eco-friendly. Some of the most problematic materials are the the ones that are non vegan (refer to the above paragraph about vegan t-shirts), the fabrics that are greedy in chemicals and in water and of course products mostly made with plastic threads.

First, let’s talk about conventionally grown cotton. It is one of the crop that requires the most fertilisers to grow. Indeed, it uses 25% of the world’s insecticides and 10% of the world’s pesticides. Besides, we need a ton of water to sustain these chemically enhanced plants.

Then, some fashion pieces are really polluting because they are made from plastic. Polyester is commonly used in the fashion industry and you probably have noticed it while checking the labels of your garments. Unfortunately, polyester comes from petroleum and is in reality plastic thread. A few new researches proved that a load of washing could release up to 17 million microfibers into the water system and that up to 40% of these microfibers get through the water treatment facilitates and straight into oceans.

Eco-Conscious Alternatives

By buying eco-conscious T-shirts (like organic t-shirts for instance), you make sure that you protect environment. Here are a few examples of fabrics that would make great Ethical T-Shirts:

Tencel is a  popular brand of lyocell or modal type fabric and we love it. It comes from wood pulp, light, versatile, more absorbent than cotton and anti-bacterial. Besides, it requires way less energy and water than cotton and is also biodegradable.

Hemp is one of the most environmentally friendly fiber. It is naturally pest-resistant and requires little or no fertiliser. Besides, it returns 60-70% of the nutrients it takes from the soil. How good, right?
